Issues in International Human Resouce Management

Question: Depict about the Issues in International Human Resouce Management. Answer: Presentation Human asset the executives is a methodology that permits business associations in dealing with their workforce and streamlining their exhibition utilizing different capacities, for example, execution the board, preparing and advancement, pay and advantages, vocation improvement, and so forth. The essential thought behind human asset the executives is to improve the relations among representatives and managers and to improve the work conditions for the workers to accomplish most extreme yields. After the spread of globalization, business associations all through the world are contending on a worldwide scale and they can't basic depend upon their procedures or assets to accomplish showcase skills as they can be handily reproduced. Business associations are presently depending upon their HR and contributing a large number of dollars to create them with the goal that their HR can help them in accomplishing market skills. Human asset the executives can be isolated into two unique classes: Household Human Resource Management it is a methodology which is trailed by organizations that have their working tasks in a solitary nation. Household human asset the executives is less confounded as it includes the administration of representatives having a place with one country alone (eduCBA, 2016). Global human asset the executives it is a methodology that is trailed by worldwide organizations that have their activities running in various nations. Universal human asset the executives is much more confused than local human asset the board as it includes the executives of workers having a place with various social foundations. It incorporates the board of decent variety, ostracizes, and so on which makes it progressively muddled and significant simultaneously (Whatishumanresource.com, 2016). Case Background Mindful Technology Solutions Corp Company is an association that offers innovation related answers for its customers. The organization was begun in 1994 and has its base camp situated in the United States of America. The organization has a surmised workforce of 244,300 representatives. Conscious Company is a market head in the business and has been getting a great deal of requests for its administrations in the ongoing occasions. Accordingly, the organization has thought of opening up new endowments in contrast nations and grow its business further. The administration of the organization has concluded that it would open up 3 new auxiliaries inside a time of 5 years while the first auxiliary would be opened up in Quite a while so as to exploit economies of scale. Aware Company has an exceptionally effective human asset the board division that has had the option to enlist, connect with and hold an enormous pool of ability by giving magnificent work conditions to them however the experience of the office has just been in the administration of local HR. The human asset the executives branch of the organization has less involvement with the administration of HR at a worldwide level and individuals originating from different foundations. Further, the organization has likewise concluded that it would need it auxiliaries to need to same work culture which is available in the central station and to accomplish such an objective, the administration has chosen to send a group of 43 ostracizes to the Indian auxiliary so as to take care of the business and build up the parent culture of the organization in the new auxiliary. Hence, the ostracize program has become another significant region of worry for the human asset branch of the organization. In this task, we will talk about some significant human asset the board gives that the association will confront while attempting to grow its procedure on outside nations. Human Resource Management Issues Let us examine the issues identified with the administration of HR that the administration of Cognizant organization will confront while attempting to grow its activities in an outside nation: Enlistment And Selection enrollment is the way toward distinguishing human asset opportunities inside an association when the application structures for that post have shown up while choice is a procedure of screening possibility to locate the best fit for a specific activity opening. Enrollment and determination are one of the most significant capacity for the human asset of any association as they help an association in satisfying the requests of the human asset that are recognized over some stretch of time. In the event that an association doesn't enlist and chooses new up-and-comers, at that point the association would consistently feel a lack of HR and would not have the option to work appropriately. Enrollment and choice turns out to be exceptionally intricate when it must be accomplished for an association that is growing its tasks to an outside nation. As Cognizant organization is intending to grow its business tasks by beginning another auxiliary in the Indian market, it will confront various enlistment and choice issues in light of the fact that there is a great deal of contrast between the lawful and social approaches of the parent and the host nation. The organization should, as a matter of first importance, select a staffing approach for its Indian auxiliary. Mindful organization can go for polycentric, geocentric, ethnocentric or regiocentric approach. Ethnocentric methodology includes staffing of home nation representatives at higher situation in the host nation. Polycentric approach includes staffing of host nation representatives for a wide range of posts. Regiocentric approach includes staffing of representatives having a place with a specific district at a wide rang e of posts while geocentric methodology includes staffing of workers having a place with any piece of the world at a post (Study.com, 2016). As talked about over, the organization has an away from of setting up its parent culture in the auxiliary. In this way, it should go with an ethnocentric methodology. The administration of the organization should 'deal with Indian work laws and duty liabilities. It would not be workable for the organization to set up the whole Indian auxiliary with home nation nationals as it would not be financially savvy and even the Indian government would not permit the organization to work on its property except if it gives business chances to the Indians. Along these lines, so as to work in India, the organization should keep the business decides that the Indian government will advance (Smallbusiness.chron.com, 2016). Ostracize Management A worldwide organization can have three sorts of representatives working for it: Home nation nationals these are the representatives who have a place with a similar nation where the base camp of the organization are found. Host nation nationals these are the representatives that an organization initiates from the nation where it is wanting to extend its business or open up another auxiliary. As it were, these are the representatives that have a place with the nation where the organization is growing its business. Third nation nationals these are the workers who neither have a place with the host nation nor to the nation of origin. These workers have a place with a third nation and are enrolled based on some uncommon ability or aptitudes which are required by the organization to run its activities. Exiles is a term utilized for those representatives who are sent to remote areas for satisfying the errands doled out to them by the central command. The executives of exiles has been distinguished as perhaps the greatest issue for the organizations who have global activities (Bowman and Meacheam, 2000). The organization should choose a group of exiles, which is one of the most troublesome errand. The organization should put a ton of assets in sending the exiles for an outside task as they need to furnish the ostracizes with lodging recompenses, clinical remittances, difficulty stipends, travel stipends, and so forth and furthermore need to take care of the groups of the representatives sent on a remote task. On the off chance that such representatives flop in satisfying the reason for their remote assignments, the organization misfortunes a ton of its significant assets. It is likewise hard for the organization to keep its ostracizes inspired. It has likewise been sees that a large portion of the ostracizes bomb in their outside assignments on account of their failure to alter in the host nation culture and without specialized capacities. In the event that an exile comes up short and is repatriated to the nation of origin, it lessens the spirit of the association and the general eff iciency endures as well. In this manner, the administration of ostracizes is a significant worry in global human asset the executives as the organizations need to choose the best individuals so they don't squander their assets and speculations (Selmer and Suutari, 2011). Managing Cultural Diversity The board of multifaceted assorted variety has likewise been perceived as one of the most concerning issues for global human asset administrators. Clearly when an organization begins a global business auxiliary, it will set up its auxiliary with home nation nationals just as host nation nationals. When there are noteworthy contrasts in the social foundations of the two nations, it turns out to be hard for the human asset the board of the organizations to manage the social assorted variety that begins to exist in the working environment (Smallbusiness.chron.com, 2016). At the point when Cognizant Company would begin its tasks in India, the representatives chose from India and exiles sent from America should work connected at the hip with one another. As they have diverse social foundations, cooperating would imply that they should adjust to new styles of working, better approaches for speaking with one another and getting comfortable with every others social practices, which is more difficult than one might expect as social issues have been distinguished as one of the prime explanations behind the disappointment of ostracize programs. It has been seen in various cases that when individuals having a place with differing foundations are presented to wor

Design And Performance Of A Supply Chain In Food Industry -samples

Question: Talk about the Design And Performance Of A Supply Chain In Food Industry . Answer: Presentation The gracefully chain is the system that exists between an organization and its providers that empower the organization to create and circulate their items, the flexibly chain speaks to the methodical advances taken by the firm to convey the item or administration to its customers. Gracefully chain the executives is a significant procedure since a very much upgraded flexibly affix prompts decrease creation costs and quicker creation cycle consequently the organization benefits with a critical overall revenue. Flexibly chain includes the providers, makers, and retailers who circulate the finished result or administration to the client. In a food industry, the flexibly affix is basic contrasted with other gracefully chains since the greater part of the nourishments are transitory and are prawn to turning sour if not maneuvered carefully or regardless of whether they don't arrive at the organization and shoppers at the ideal time. All Its nourishments industry wish to deliver and flexibly excellent food sources at unequaled to their customers (Manzini Accorsi 2013, p.256). Anyway this is a test since the vast majority of the food is delivered in little scope, and promoting channels accessible are viewed as philanthropic ready to nearby or little scope food makers. Quality, cost and on time conveyance are the significant point of view that is seen in the food flexibly chain industry. Australian Dairy Supply Chain In Australia, since the drop of guideline in dairy items in 2000 the partners in the Australian dairy food flexibly chain have been stood up to with an unpredictable and a step by step evolving condition. Markets in Australia rose as the predominant in flexibly chain improvement, yet they additionally relied upon other gracefully chain members. The future gracefully chain advancement is exceptionally subject to the abilities of the flexibly chain partners and the key association inside the handling organizations (Smith, Lawrence and Richards 2010, p146). The organizations additionally should be watchful and be receptive to the regularly changing client needs and the elements of the market condition. In Australia helpful work as the principle interface between the ranchers and the purchaser, they are additionally worried about worth option and bundling of business dairy items. The coordination between the key members in the chain has been progressing with rivalry being high from the prevalent entertainers. The coordination centers around two basic prerequisites for an effective gracefully chain; effectiveness inside the flexibly chain by reducing expenses out of the framework and the positive arrangement between what is being delivered and what is being given in the market. In this way its imperative to have a solid coordination between the ranchers and the cooperatives to guarantee effectiveness in administration conveyance. Exercises of an individual member in a flexibly chain can affect that of different members since they rotate under an associated framework. It's thusly essential to sift through the difficulties and adjust the framework with the goal that the joint profitability is expanded. Anyway in a gracefully chain clashes are unavoidable it's imperative to fortify the relationship to guarantee greatest efficiency from the interrelationship. Usage, Source And Processing Of Milk In Australia The Australian business is that third biggest provincial industry in Australia with 80% of the milk created originating from the south eastern piece of the nation. Fifty-five percent of the milk delivered in Australia is traded representing sixteen percent of the worldwide dairy send out (Bourlakis,Maglaras ,Gallear and Fotopoulos 2014, 61). The milk delivered is intended for two general classifications of the market: liquid drinking milk and assembling milk that should create dairy items like cheddar and margarine. Cooperatives in Australia have ruled the preparing business bookkeeping around seventy-five percent of all the milk yield. The significant milk processors in Australia incorporate dairy ranchers, national nourishments, and Parmalat which handles around eighty-six percent of the Australian drinking milk. The Australian local market is traveled through three head conveyance channels being; the course exchange, general stores, and food administration channels. Stores which incorporate both the major and littler chain bunches speak to the biggest developing channel of dissemination. The course exchange which incorporates little retail outlets and accommodation stores is the second greatest dairy item appropriation channel. The food administration channel is the most minor yet at the same time developing including the eateries, cooks, and cheap food outlets. Australia Deregulation Prior to the deregulation in Australia, the milk producing market was described by open access where exchanging of milk between states was done uninhibitedly. The state dairy authority came to set the market costs from the rancher up to the retailer. Conveyance of milk in the market was likewise controlled with sellers being constrained to make deals at explicit zones. Controlled flexibly portrayed the connections between the makers, processors and the retailers. The deregulation prompted gracefully chain getting progressively coordinated, and development in item procedure and flexibly chain is turning out to be reformed in the manner the items are being delivered, circulated and showcased. Deregulation opened up numerous open doors for retailers with respect to expanding their edges in the new gracefully chain. Significant general stores currently request new produce to originate from the providers and merchants who consent to the food standard code and great assembling rehearses. Having a serious market with new milk and other milk items portrayed with oversupply and product direction the best way to an upper hand is through advancement. Government Policies Changing of government approaches and open discernment towards ecological maintainability has brought about condition thought at all phases of the gracefully chain (Peter and Rowley, 2010.p 1327). All partners including grocery stores are underscoring on minimization of waste, decrease of vitality utilization and reusing. Processors, then again, are structuring ecological well disposed bundles while the milk makers are under the examination of water the executives, land use frameworks, and creature government assistance. End Assessment of the Australian dairy food flexibly chain shows the capability of the gracefully chain idea for mechanical advancement of the dairy evolved ways of life. Conceptualizing the flexibly chain elements give bits of knowledge into potential chances to change ,assets and capacity that are probably going to add to the dairy accomplishment in the short and long haul. Ceaseless upgrades in the Australian dairy flexibly chain will profit the individual firms as well as the huge cooperatives. An Evening With BJ Novak, opened by Barack Obama

An Evening With BJ Novak, opened by Barack Obama [Apologies that this entry is so delayed. Ive been walking around like a turtle in three pairs of sweatpants and two sweatshirts and a lot of sweat trying to get over this ridiculous cold-flu-thing lets just say that trying to will my body back to homeostasis topped off with a 11-page story, two midterms and starting a new UROP hasnt left a whole lot of time for blagging. Good thing they got Sniv to cover it as well. But Im here now! ] There are some times in your MIT career when youre tired and struggling to keep your eyes open and your focus on this pset and wondering when exactly it was the last time you got to go outside, and you lose perspective. (Oh, calm down. Its not all that bad. I was outside just last week!) You forget, most of the time, that youre a student at one of the top engineering schools in the country, or that the guy on the other side of the wall is developing an indoor autonomous quad-rotor helicopter that can be used for search-and-rescue missions, and maybe someday, finding the remote from that deep crevasse between couch cushions without you having to get up. You forget that this is an institute of world-class research because its also the place where you live and play and work and buy enchiladas from Joses Food Truck. And then there are other days when you cant help but be reminded, like when Obama came to MIT a few Fridays ago. It all happened so suddenly. Ive heard that MIT didnt even know he was coming until the weekend before, but all I know is I received nine separate emails between 6:09 PM and 7:46 PM on Tuesday evening about Obama visiting MIT on Friday morning (mostly punctuated with multiple exclamation marks, and one misspelling of Obama as yomama)(that last one might have been me. Please dont tell Barack). President Obama is the second standing president to ever visit MIT, after Clintons commencement speech in 1998. He is also, in case you have been kidnapped some time in the last two years and are unaware of the current state of American politics, the first black president of the United States. (If you are, in fact, kidnapped, and this was the first thing you decided to read instead of sending a distress email, Im certainly honored, but please do contact your parents at some point. Ill wait.) So it was certainly an overwhelming feeling to think that we were here, as MIT students, about to witness this tremendously historic event. The second standing president to visit MIT, the first African American president of the United States, was about to give an address on the state of renewable energy on the same stage that I have personally slid, belly-first, across. Matt McGann and I hosted the 2009 CPW variety show and talked about the time I bought a Logs serenade for my boyfriend on that stage. And the night after, BJ Novak was going to be up there, on THAT VERY STAGE, doing standup with a hand puppet. (What can we say? Kresge gets around.) One of these emails I got in that nine email blast was an email from Vice President for Institute Affairs, Kirk D. Kolenbrander, assuring us that the tickets MIT has for the event will be allocated in such a way as to be broadly representative of the Instituteand weighted to favor students. This was greatly exciting news, and we all went to sleep that night with visions of Obama speaking to an auditorium full of hackers and Sloanies. Except the next morning it came out that there would only actually be 50 student tickets, and so it was truly an honor to get the opportunity to see him speak. The talk was slated to start at around 12-12:30, so naturally they asked us to get there at 10. (I guess when youre the president, you get to ask people to take several hours out of their incredibly valuable time at the Massachu- okay, I probably would have been sleeping, but still, two and a half hours??) Nina 10 (one of the few other MIT students I knew with the privilege to see Obama speak) and I ended up getting there at around 9:30, and already the line was pretty much packed. Standing in line that day was so crazy to me because Id personally tramped all over these grounds for the past three years, not giving a second thought to slopping my feet down all over the grass and ruining countless pairs of shoes in the constantly muddy patch of grass in front of Kresge, but on this day, the entire path around Kresge was blocked. It was like President Obama had come down and blessed the ground itself, and for that reason they needed ropes, gates, and a handful of Secret Service agents making sure nobody tried to sneak in and streak across the field or anything. (Not that we do that.) So Nina 10 and I get inside mind you, we were probably about 40 people from the front when some lady comes up to us and asks, Are you MIT students? Yes? I respond, unsure if shes trying to figure out what smells so bad. Come with me, she says, leading us around to the middle section. To a block of seats marked reserved. Is it really okay? Isnt Susan Hockfield or someone sitting here? Go for it; theyre for you. Nina and I settle into our seats two rows from the front, directly in the center, right in the line of fire if President Obama were to spit or something, and I begin to hyperventilate a little bit. A lot bit. After Nina finds me a paper bag to breathe in, I take a look around and realize 1) that we have literally the best seats that you can get without being a professor, better than the members of the UA, better than Jason Scott, Class of 2010 president and better than Ninas dads seat, as the Dean of Engineering and 2) that they really arent optimizing the space as well as they could be. A few rows behind us, the center section is entirely blocked off for press: To my left are some pretty important people: Peter Lu 11, and an MIT alum my mother is very thankful for: (What can I say? The Kim family really loves their Roomba.) And in front of me, freshman chemistry professor and minor MIT celebrity for bringing in a glass of champagne and toasting the class at his final lecture of every fall semester: After a little while, people started to get restless. Being locked in an auditorium with all the famousness and cameras and glory surrounding this event were beginning to get a little monotonous, and so they lowered all the patriotic orchestral music blaring through Kresges speakers and sent out Cecilia Louis 10, a member of the Chorallaries with an amazing voice, to sing the national anthem. It was awe-inspiring, really; so much so that the entire auditorium collectively had no idea what to do afterwards. Finally, they sent out a dude to bring out the presidential water bottle (oh, and the presidential seal): Another brief moment of panic (and a quick text message to my mom) when Deval Patrick and John Kerry decided to show up: Have you ever seen the standing president of the United States in person? Yes? No? Have you ever seen someone with such celebrity status that it makes you want to eat your own hand, a little? (Ill accept Lady Gaga.*) That is kind of what it is like to see the president in person. Ladies and gentlemen, the president! HYPERVENTILATION. of MIT. Oh. Hey Susie. Lets try this again, shall we? Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States! Thank you, MIT I am hugely honored to be here. Its always been a dream of mine to visit the most prestigious school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Obama began. Cheers. Hold on a second. Certainly the most prestigious school in this part of Cambridge, anyway. Ill probably be here for a while; I understand a bunch of engineering students put my motorcade on top of building 10. Oh, President Obama, you and your pink tie had me at motorcade. And then he spoke, and I stopped taking pictures for a little bit. In all honesty, the speech wasnt that.. earth shattering, although it was pretty incredible to see him in person. It was fantastic that he acknowledged the energy initiative research happening at MIT, and I felt very moved when he talked about how continuing support for renewable energy research would be key in ensuring America leads the way in the global economy. For the most part, however, a lot of his speech was very generic in discussing how we would go about making these changes; most of the terms that he used to describe the need for clean energy were fairly non-specific. Even still, when he stepped off the stage I felt so inspired to run home and unplug my space heater that I pretty much missed the entire part where he walked around in the crowd and shook peoples hands. Fortunately, Class of 2010 President Jason Scott didnt: As we filed out of Kresge, I noticed that most of the field was still blocked off and people were basically hanging from the barriers, trying to get a glimpse of the president as he ran out to his motorcade: It was an incredible day, and I was truly honored to have been a part of it. I walked off to class with an extra bounce in my step and a feeling of awe, like Id just witnessed history in the making, like Id just experienced something that I would tell my robot grandchildren about in the year 2070. And then the next night I went back to Kresge: You can watch a flash video of Obamas s speech (unfortunately, sans really awkward moment post-singing of the National Anthem) here. *Hey, even he admitted it. It is a privilege to be here tonight to open for Lady Gaga. Ive made it.

How Racism Takes 7 Different Forms

Racism refers to a variety of practices, beliefs, social relations, and phenomena that work to reproduce a racial hierarchy and social structure that yield  superiority, power, and privilege for some, and discrimination and oppression for others. It can take several forms, including representational, ideological, discursive, interactional, institutional, structural,  and systemic. Racism exists when ideas and assumptions about racial categories  are used to justify and reproduce a racial hierarchy and racially structured society that unjustly limits access to resources, rights, and privileges  on the basis of race. Racism also occurs when this kind of unjust social structure is produced by the  failure  to account for race and  its  historical  and contemporary roles in society. Contrary to a dictionary definition, racism, as defined based on social science research and theory,  is about much more than race-based prejudice—it exists when an imbalance in power and social status is generated by how we understand and act upon race. The 7 Forms of Racism Racism takes seven main forms, according to social science. Rarely does any one exist on its own. Instead, racism typically operates as a combination of at least two forms working together, simultaneously. Independently and together, these seven forms of racism work to reproduce racist ideas, racist interactions and behavior, racist practices and policies, and an overall racist social structure. Representational Racism Depictions of racial stereotypes are common in popular culture and media, like the historical tendency to cast people of color as criminals and as victims of crime rather than in other roles, or as background characters rather than as leads in film and television. Also common are racial caricatures that are racist in their representations, like â€Å"mascots† for the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and the Washington Redskins. The power of representational racism—or racism expressed in how racial groups are represented within popular culture—is that it encapsulates a whole range of racist ideas that imply inferiority, and often stupidity and untrustworthiness, in images that circulate society and permeate our culture. While those not directly harmed by representational racism might not take it seriously, the presence of such images and our interaction with them on a near-constant basis helps to keep alive the racist ideas attached to them. Ideological Racism Ideology is a word that sociologists use to refer to the world views, beliefs, and common sense ways of thinking that are normal in a society or culture. So, ideological racism is a kind of racism that colors and manifests in those things. It refers to world views, beliefs, and common sense ideas that are rooted in racial stereotypes and biases. A troubling example is the fact that many people in American society, regardless of their race, believe that  white and light skinned people are more intelligent than dark-skinned people and superior in a variety of other ways. Historically, this particular form of ideological racism supported and justified the building of European colonial empires and U.S. imperialism through the unjust acquisition of land, people, and resources around the world. Today, some common ideological forms of racism include the belief that Black women are sexually promiscuous, that Latina women are â€Å"fiery† or â€Å"hot-tempered,† and that black men and boys are criminally oriented. This form of racism has a negative impact on people of color as a whole because it works to deny them access to and/or success within education and the professional world, and subjects them to heightened police surveillance, harassment, and violence, among other negative outcomes. Discursive Racism Racism is often expressed linguistically, in the discourse we use to talk about the world and people in it. This kind of racism is expressed as racial slurs and hate speech, but also as code words that have racialized meanings embedded in them, like â€Å"ghetto,† â€Å"thug,† or â€Å"gangsta.† Just as representational racism communicates racist ideas through images, discursive racism communicates them through the actual words we use to describe people and places. Using words that rely on stereotypical racial differences to communicate explicit or implicit hierarchies perpetuates the racist inequalities that exist in society. Interactional Racism Racism often takes an interactional form, which means it is expressed in how we interact with each other. For example, a white or Asian woman walking on a sidewalk may cross the street to avoid passing closely by a black or Latino man because she is implicitly biased to see these men as potential threats. When a person of color is verbally or physically assaulted because of their race, this is interactional racism. When a neighbor calls the police to report a break-in because they do not recognize their black neighbor, or when someone automatically assumes that a person of color is a low-level employee or an assistant, though they might be a manager, executive, or owner of a business, this is interactional racism. Hate crimes are the most extreme manifestation of this form of racism. Interactional racism causes stress, anxiety, and emotional and physical harm to people of color on a daily basis. Institutional Racism Racism takes institutional form in the ways that policies and laws are crafted and put into practice through societys institutions, such as the decades-long set of policing and legal policies known as â€Å"The War on Drugs,† which has disproportionately targeted neighborhoods and communities that are composed predominantly of people of color. Other examples include New York City’s Stop-N-Frisk policy that overwhelmingly targets black and Latino males,  the practice among real estate agents and mortgage lenders of not allowing people of color to own property in certain neighborhoods and that force them to accept less desirable mortgage rates, and educational tracking policies that funnel children of color into remedial classes and trades programs. Institutional racism preserves and fuels the racial gaps in wealth, education, and social status, and serves to perpetuate white supremacy and privilege. Structural Racism Structural racism refers to the ongoing, historical, and long-term reproduction of the racialized structure of our society through a combination of all of the above forms. Structural racism manifests in widespread  racial segregation and stratification on the basis of education, income, and wealth, the recurrent displacement of people of color from neighborhoods that go through processes of gentrification, and the overwhelming burden of environmental pollution borne by people of color given its proximity to their communities. Structural racism results in large-scale, society-wide inequalities on the basis of race. Systemic Racism Many sociologists describe racism in the U.S. as systemic because the country was founded on racist beliefs that created racist policies and practices, and because that legacy lives today in the racism that courses throughout the entirety of our social system. This means that racism was built into the very foundation of our society, and because of this, it has influenced the development of social institutions, laws, policies, beliefs, media representations, and behaviors and interactions, among many other things. By this definition, the system itself is racist, so effectively addressing racism requires a system-wide approach that leaves nothing unexamined. Racism in Sum Sociologists observe a variety of styles or types of racism within these seven different forms. Some may be overtly racist, like the use of racial slurs or hate speech, or policies that intentionally discriminate against people on the basis of race. Others may be covert, kept to oneself, hidden from public view, or obscured by color-blind policies that purport to be race-neutral, though they have racist impacts. While something may not appear obviously racist at first glance, it may, in fact, prove to be racist when one examines the implications of it through a sociological lens. If it relies on stereotypical notions of race and reproduces a racially structured society, then it is racist. Due to the sensitive nature of race as a topic of conversation in American society, some have come to think that simply noticing race, or identifying or describing someone using race, is racist. Sociologists do not agree with this. In fact, many sociologists, race scholars, and anti-racist activists emphasize the importance of recognizing and accounting for race and racism as necessary in the pursuit of social, economic, and political justice.

Prison Term Policy Free Essays

Darrell Cook In the criminal Justice field, laws has been set and made to ensure the safety and the protection of the citizen of today. When criminals commit a crime they will be punish and will be prosecuted under the law of the crime that they have committed. When it comes to police policy, it is written to assist the courts in the sentencing, depending on the type of crime that was made. We will write a custom essay sample on Prison Term Policy or any similar topic only for you Order Now Every year the prison policies are changed, criminals that are convicted of a crime may face a longer sentence than a arson that is currently in prison for the same crime, because of the prison policies have changed. Therefore, the prison policy for convicted felonies is being reviewed by the state legislature and must be voted on, so that the bill can be passed. As a criminologist, I have done my research on arm robberies and robberies occurs when someone property is taken by force; meaning when an armed robbery is using some type of weapon to take possession of something from someone. According to my research, Armed Robberies isn’t Just taking something from someone that doesn’t along to you; its more than that, it’s a violent offense when someone is using a firearm or some other type of weapon. When a weapon is including in an arm robbery, it is viewed a more seriousness crime, even when a person is using a fake weapon they still will be charged as an armed robbery. So in my opinion, my recommendation would be to double the maximum prison term for repeat offenders. As first time offenders I don’t believed it should be double Max prison term, because in today society you have young teens that are committing arm robberies. When it moms to the young teens, there has to be a question to why they are committing such felony like this. The teens of today are committing these crimes because they are trying to keep up with the latest foot wear and clothes, because their parent’s can’t afford it. But I do believe and recommend that if these teens continue to commit these crimes over and over that they also can receive the Max prison term, like they say â€Å"if you can do the crime you can do the time†. In each state the length of sentence is different for a person that commits and convicted of arm robbery. As the criminologist, this bill going to be voted on rather to double the maximum prison term for anyone that is convicted of robbery. I think it will be a good ideal for the legislature official to review the statistics of armed robberies and the ages of the convicted felonies that commit these violent crimes. Also compare all other normal robberies that are not violent crimes. I also think that citizens of the community should be able to speak about this bill and see what they have to say about this bill being passed. Www. mygeorgiadefenselawyer. Informative Essay Sample on Go Ask Alice by Grace Slick

Informative Essay Sample on Go Ask Alice by Grace Slick In the book Go Ask Alice , by Grace Slick, the main character Alice had suffered in a way that forced her to escape from her home to avoid her family. She was in too much trouble. She was on drugs and her parents did not know anything but they had a notion that she was hiding a secret from them. In the book, Alice was into drugs and was trying to stop using drugs when she was 14 and 15 years old. On the day that she want to a party she was raped. The day she first tried marajuana at a party there was also drugs in her drink and she did not know until the next day when her best friend told her what happened. She kept the secret and she never told her parents that she had tried drugs. Before Alice ran away from home she was wondering what it would be like to smoke a joint. After that she began to like it and she began become addicted to drugs. That was the time her parents noticed there was something going on with Alice Anonymous. Alices best friend helped her and got her things that she needed. For example she helped her get a job, a house and things that would make her stop thinking about drugs and stop her from using drugs. In the end, Alice came back home clean and didnt have any more trouble with drugs. Alice and her mother began to solve all the problems she had been through and they made a promise to each other that if she has any problems, they would talk about them. The part I disliked about the book was when she was raped and what people made her go through. People kept telling her to try the drugs and when she went to school people tried to sell it to her. Some of the other kids using drugs tried to blame everything on Alice to get her in trouble so she would get kicked out of school. The part that hurt is when she couldnt tell her mother how school was when she would come home from school crying and suffering. I am interested in this book because it showed me what my family went through when they were teenagers and other people I know too who had trouble using drugs. The book also made me experience a lot of feelings like sadness, happiness, excitement, etc. I like this book because it explained what a person had been through and where they went when they needed to run away from their problems. I also read this book because when my aunt was a teenager she read this book and I was wondering what kind of book she was reading when she was young. This book is interesting because it shows people and teenagers what it is like to be addicted to drugs and to help them understand what they might be going through if they start up on drugs. I found this book a good example of someone suffering and having a hard time trying to solve a problem by themself when they dont want to tell their parents or family members. Media Ethic - Essay Example A Free Press serves the nation successfully when it serves its family fairly.† (Babu and Shetty, 255) Though context of delivering the judgment was different, but role and ethical importance of the news media have reflected from his judgment. Role of ethics in journalism has become so important that media ethics has emerged as a new discipline of study in this field. Progress in the field of media ethics depends greatly over â€Å"responsible journalism’ as it aims at conveying â€Å"truth and enlightenment.† (Berry, 82) Media ethics has been provided with so much important these days as it has failed to comply with its integral relationship with social justice. The morality factor plays an important role in the development of media ethics and factors like ‘social and self-responsibilities, duties, rights, consequences, truth, trust, objectivity-subjectivity, public interest, representation and purpose’ are associated with it. In the book, Social Justice, Matthew Clayton, Andrew Williams have commented, â€Å"Issues of social justice, in the broadest sense, arise when decisions affect the distribution of benefits and burdens between different individuals or groups.† (Clayton, Williams, 1) The concept of social justice is essentially related with common people and issues related to the sense of justice. It is expected that all forms of media will attempt to heighten the aspect of justice from different perspectives. Looking into the current condition of news media it is widely regarded that it has declined to some extent from its actual role. There are several occasions, where news media has failed to comply with its role as voice of people. This is the main reason that ethics in case of news media is provided with special attention. Recently, the unequal distribution of power factor is becoming increasingly conspicuous in the society and on several occasions the news media has intentionally refused to pay attention to such factor. Rodney has worked for Greengrass Ltd, a firm of seed wholesalers, as Essay

Rodney has worked for Greengrass Ltd, a firm of seed wholesalers, as the company accountant, for fourteen years. On a recent au - Essay Example Still before being dismissed no in depth investigation was conducted into the matter and also Rodney was not provided with any explanation what so ever of how the firm reached the decision. At the same time the CEO refrained from providing Rodney a chance to say anything in his defense, and no compensation was awarded for the sudden dismissal. Compensation can be claimed by Rodney provided the dismissal is proven to be either wrongful or unfair. Although the ACAS cannot be legally and lawfully implemented yet it is a disciplinary guideline for employers to manage their workforce and is given importance during the legal proceedings if a tribunal hears the case (Bell, 2006) Rodney’s employment termination will be classified as wrongful and unfair by ACAS (ACAS, 2013). The unfair dismissal can be characterized with regards to the band of reasonable responses test and the procedural fairness (Bell, 2006). Rodney can claim a grievance for Supervisory practices (OPEIU, 2013; ACAS, 2 009). He can be compensated for being unfairly dismissed. Green grass ltd. can claim that a contract breach can occur on suspicion of theft and Rodney be dismissed without any sound proof; not holding green grass ltd. liable to remedy Rodney’s dismissal. ... With Rodney being employed for 14 years the CEO of Green grass ltd. should have provided him with 12 weeks (1 week for every year) worth of notice before dismissing him; as it the maximum period allowed (compactlaw, 2013). But for the assurety of wrongful dismissal the contract will need to be studied. Remedies for Wrongful Dismissal Following remedies can be claimed for wrongful dismissal (compactlaw, 2013): 1. Unpaid wages 2. Money for correct notice 3. Perks 4. Pension loss 5. Commission, bonus payments Unfair Dismissal of Rodney The Dismissal of Rodney will be regarded as unfair by the Government of United Kingdom as the CEO of Green Grass ltd. had no satisfactory reason behind dismissing Rodney and also he did not follow the disciplinary procedures of the company to authenticate the dismissal (Gov, 2013). According to ACAS (2013), the dismissal is ‘automatically unfair’; irrespective even if the employer used a reasonable cause to terminate the employment of Rodney since he had been a full time employee at Green Grass ltd. for the past fourteen years. The employee also needs to be an employee of the same firm for a continuous period of two years to qualify for unfair dismissal (Compactlaw, 2013). The only way the dismissal could have been categorized as fair if the employer would have been able to prove that the decision to dismiss Rodney had been carried out for; misconduct, incapability or being unqualified for the job, redundancy or statutory restrictions on job continuation (ACAS, 2013). The CEO accused Rodney of misconduct in terms of dishonesty and misplacement of monies from the accounts and dismissed him providing no further reason for the dismissal. In meeting this aim, the following Objectives were set: To critically observe the methods and procedures followed by organizations for mergers or acquisition to happen To critically examine if the motivating methods employed by General Electric Company help to yield more output in a merger and acquisition, 2005 to 2010 To assess the scope, these mergers and acquisitions contributed towards increasing both the top line and bottom line growth in General Electric Company, 2005 to 2010 To critically observe the methods and strategies that General Electric Company followed to sustain their growth and development obtained from the merger or acquisition, 2005 to 2010 To identify the areas of integration in an organization that most need improvement and to resolve the problems Mergers Acquisitions Current Industry Scenario: The current industry scenario as far as Mergers Acquisitions (MA) are concerned is more of an act of showing power by the company pushing for the merger or takeover. No one is happy as far as a merger or an acquisition is concerned other than the company which is taking over. A MA normally leads to various staff issues, the culture of an organization goes through a complete change and this change becomes hard to be accepted by the existing staff members of the company which is being taken over. We have seen many scenarios wherein the staffs of the company being taken over have had to either undergo a huge change or leave the organization itself. But, the scenario is always not the same; there have been instances wherein the company taking over have come forward to help the existing staff members in the old organization to blend in the new system which they are not used to. Many companies have made it to the top of their respective industry because of such MAs. In the instance of the most recent takeover of Cadbury by Kraft Foods, both the companies have been known for their bitter rivalry in the industry. But at the end of all this rivalry the board of Cadburys agreed to bow down for 11.5 billion pounds in January 2011. The Chairman of Cadbury Mr.Roger Carr in an interview with BBC was quoted to say that the reason for which Cadbury agreed for the takeover was more in the financial interest of the company. This clearly shows that any kind of merger would just be done on the basis of the financial ability of the company to handle the pressure. Cadbury a company known for its best HR practices had to give away its culture and its practices to a company like Kraft foods which the moment they took over Cadburys, just started replacing the existing staffs with their own staff. This is the kind of attitude that saw many lose their jobs. There were many who were made to leave their jobs by showing the culture of an American company to the British workers. Cadbury was known to take care of its workers and when the takeover was completed it was just cleaned over by Kraft Foods just in the way they wanted. This is not only for Cadbury, this is normally what happens in any takeover and Kraft-Cadbury is just an example of what has been happening around. But, there have been few takeovers which might also result in the growth of the bond. The example for this can be the General Electric Company (GE) takeover of Lineage Power Holdings, Inc., from the Gores Group, LLC. This takeover which happened in March 2011 resulted in the growth of Lineage Power Holdings Inc., in the field of telecommunications and data communication. Though the company was taken over by GE the company still stuck to its culture and none of its staff have been asked to leave by GE. This showed GEs attitude towards its employees even if it meant that it was a company that they had taken over. This attitude of GE shows how a company should handle such acquisitions in a smooth manner without affecting the employees. Though the current scenario gives us a different picture about Mergers Acquisitions it is very important that companies do not take decisions based on the current scenario alone. That is where it becomes important for an organization to do ample research before proceeding for an Acquisition or a Merger. There are number of theories that suggest different kinds of approaches to be taken with regard to a MA. The reviews of the literature on these theories are discussed by the researcher further in this chapter. Mergers Acquisitions Classification: The classifications based on the transactions can be done as Horizontal, Vertical or Conglomerate (Gaughan, 2002, Chunlai Chen and Findlay, 2003). As stated by Chunlai Chen and Findlay (2003), horizontal MA is where the target and the acquiring company are in the same industry. The example for such a merger was discussed earlier when the researcher spoke about Kraft Foods takeover of Cadbury. This is largely due to the fact that there has been substantial change in the technology and liberalization of industries. MA are said to be classified as vertical when there is a combination of firms which were already in a client supplier or a buyer seller relationship. The organizations that are involved in such transactions normally look at downsizing the costs in the value chain and eventually benefit the economics of scope (Chunlai Chen and Findlay, 2003). As stated by Gaughan (2002), a transaction that involves two companies which operate completely unrelated business is called Conglome rate. In addition to the above MA can also be classified as either Friendly or Hostile (Chunlai Chen and Findlay, 2003). A transaction is considered as Friendly if the target companys board agrees to the takeover amount and the MA is carried out. If the takeover happens with the target companys board just needing to surrender to the acquiring company just for the money, it is considered as Hostile. Chunlai Chen and Findlay (2003) also stated that the MA could be Domestic or Cross-Border for the companies that are involved. This is normally done in order to create a presence or to look at having better opportunities for success in the Industry. The classification of MA could then be summarized in the table below: Classification of merger acquisition transactions MA classification in terms of Value chain Relationship Economic area Horizontal MA Vertical MA Conglomerate MA Friendly MA Hostile MA Domestic MA Cross-border MA Taking into account the different classifications in terms of Value Chain, Relationship and Economic Scope the researcher would be considering the different MAs that have been executed by General Electric Company (GE) and look at the effect that such MAs have had upon the employees of the target organization. The researcher further looks at the various theories that would have been considered for different MAs executed by GE. Motives and the Theories behind Mergers Acquisitions: Exploring the motives of firms engaging in MA transactions has been placed with a significant amount of efforts by different authors. Earlier Trautwein (1990) and more recently Cox (2006) provided us with a more brief description of the motives by underlaying different theories (Please refer to Table 2.2: MA Motives). Trautwein(1990) noted that MA makers were more interested in the valuation (the deal yielding a higher Net Present Value) and synergy to justify the merger or acquisition. As expected it is quite clear that managers do not refer monopoly power in any of the benefits that the acquiring organization might be deriving out of the deal. Trautwein (1990) also states that the process and the raider theories have very little evidence on the motives implied by them both in the form of research or in practice. The disturbance theory is also discussed by him as being considered at the macro-economic level than the micro-economic level which is more related to the present research and hence the researcher has not considered the same. Interestingly, Gaughan (2002) gives a more realistic way of viewing the MA motives with numerous empirical case studies which has reference to the theories with more details. There are four main motives for a firm to execute MA according to him, they are: (1) Quick growth comes through M&A; (2) Economics of scope or scale may be gained through M&A; (3) Having a larger firm due to a MA means more access to capital market, which would in the future lead to a lesser cost of capital, i.e., benefits of more financial options; and (4) A firm with superior management skill might also look at MA with an anticipation of higher gains through the target organizations business. One the whole, the researcher quite clearly shows how all the three authors noted above have concurred on the fact that any MA is driven by not one but many complex motives. And all these are not at all similar in any form and would always vary from deal to deal which can never be justified with a single theory/approach. Merger acquisition motives (adapted from Trautwein, 1990 and Cox, 2006) Motives Theory Description Rational Choice MA MA Benefitting Acquirers Shareholders Gaining Based on synergy Efficiency Theory The three major synergies Financial, Managerial and Operational are achieved when MA is executed. Transfer of Wealth from customers Monopoly theory Market power is seized by planning and executing MA. Horizontal Conglomerate MA types wherein the acquiring firm takes control of the industry on the whole. Transfer of Wealth from targets shareholders Raider theory A person who oversees and initiates wealth transfers from the stockholders of the companies he bids for exchange of excessive compensation after a successful takeover is called a Raider. Gaining based on private information Valuation Theory/ Investment Theory This kind of MA is normally planned and executed by managers who have in-depth knowledge about the market of the target company. MA Benefitting Managers Empire- building theory/ Agency theory Instead of increasing the shareholders value, MA is planned and executed to maximize the Managers own utility. Process Outcome MA Process theory MAs are executed as an outcome of another process as per this theory. These processes can be internal or external to the organization. Macro-Economic Phenomenon MA Disturbance theory The MA which is triggered by virtue of an economic disturbance forms the Disturbance theory. These are normally those MAs which are not that successful when it comes to long term as they are a result of an economic imbalance. The successful Acquisition-Integration strategy of General Electric Company A Preview: The case study that has been taken for this research is that of General Electric Company, a name which has been very successful in Mergers Acquisitions mostly due to its strategy techniques. The most successful strategy as far as GE is concerned is the Wheel of Fortune: The Pathfinder model of GE capital. The whole cycle of the integration of both companies as a single entity involves a lot of involvement from both the sides. The most discussed acquisition-integration process is that of the GE Capital Services Wheel of Fortune model coded as the Pathfinder Model. This model is now well established and has been successfully implemented by GE in all its acquisitions. This model consists of four main stages called Action Stages viz. Pre-Acquisition, Foundation Building, Rapid Integration and Assimilation. It starts from when the deal is initiated to the stage where the integration is completed. The four stages are further divided into two or three more processes within each stage. The Pre-Acquisition stage has processes like Due Diligence, Negotiation and Announcement, Closing and Signing off of Deal. The Foundation Building stage consists of the launch of the integration, the acquisition -integration workout and the strategy formulation. The Rapid Integration consists of two processes Implementation of strategy and Course Assessment and Adjustment. The last and final stage is Assimilation wherein you have the long-term evaluation and Adjustment and then the Capitalization of the success of the integration of both organizations. Also in each action stage several best practises which are more specific and practical to help the managers to support the integration process. WOF-GE.jpg The Wheel of Fortune: The Pathfinder Model This model clearly shows that the acquisition integration is in itself an art which can be also a science when it comes to principles followed by this model. A particular sequence of actions which are leveraged according to the requirement of the acquisition-integration process is clearly defined in the Pathfinder model, most of which are more unique in nature.  The model is shown with such representation that it does not eliminate the need for managers to improvise for the integration process but it however prevents this improvisation to become a centre point in the integration process. This is the model that has been successfully implemented by GE time and again and has always paid them rich dividends when it comes to both organization and staff integration, which is very important for the integrated organization to thrive in the current market situation. Conclusion: In the above chapter the researcher has given the insights on the current scenario with regard to the Mergers Acquisitions. The researcher also ventures into the different theories with regard to Mergers and Acquisitions and explains with the help of necessary literature the concepts surrounding these theories. Also the researcher identifies the various scenarios in which these theories are to be used in a merger or acquisition. The researcher further gives information about the reason why GE has been chosen for this research as a case study by emphasising the fact that most of the acquisitions that have been executed by GE have been successful. The Pathfinder model being followed by GE is explained by the researcher, giving a summary of the acquisition-integration process which has helped GE in smoothening of all acquisitions handled by GE. On the whole this chapter deals with various literatures that detailing the MA processes and gives the researcher a strong idea about the Resea rch Methodology to be followed for conducting this research successfully.

System coverage

This guide is written for forest rangers and foresters, county forest board members and exaggerators extension workers. Each illustration introduces a set of principles and planning procedures on how exaggerators planning can proceed for the restoration of degraded sloping lands and for the incorporation of trees into agricultural landscapes. 1. 3 How to use this guide? This guide does not provide ready-made recipes, but offers advice on how to integrate trees and exaggerators practices into land restoration in general, and in sloping land management. Its aim is to help extension workers and rammers formulate their own knowledge, innovations and practices for the specific conditions they face. The guide also takes stock of good practice and success stories from locally and aboard, as well as lessons learnt from failures. It is designed as an entry point primarily for field practitioners. In cases where exaggerators is completely absent in current field practices, it may be used to ini tiate a participatory planning process for the incorporation of trees in farms and sloping lands. The purpose is to assist in sustainable economic development and environmental protection. Exaggerators is the combination of agriculture and forestry; rather than treating these as separate options for land use, it brings both together, recognizing and promoting tree use on farms. Exaggerators can be defined as: The integration of trees in farming systems and their management in rural landscapes to enhance productivity, profitability, diversity and ecosystem sustainability. While the number of trees in natural forests is steadily declining, the number of trees on farmland is increasing. In many parts of the tropics, exaggerators is providing essential products and services that can help relieve he pressure on the natural forest domain. EXAGGERATORS: OTHER DEFINITION In simplest language, â€Å"exaggerators is the production of trees and of non-tree crops or animals on the same piece of land†. The crops can be grown together at the same time, can be grown in rotation, or can even be grown in separate plots when materials from one are used to benefit another. However, this simple definition fails to take into account the integrated concepts associated with exaggerators that make this system Of land management possibly the most self-sustaining and ecologically sound of any agricultural system. Thus, a second definition of exaggerators would be, ‘the integration of trees, plants, and animals in conservative, long-term, productive systems†. Exaggerators can be considered more as an approach than as a single, finished technology.Although several finished systems have been devised and tested, such technology may require adjustment for particular situations. The flexibility of the exaggerators approach is one of its advantages. WHY EXAGGERATORS? Exaggerators systems make maximum use of the land. Every part of the land is considered suitable for useful pla nts. Emphasis is placed on perennial, ultimate purpose crops that are planted once and yield benefits over a long period of time. Such benefits include construction materials, food for humans and animals, fuels, fibers, and shade.Trees in exaggerators systems also have important uses such as holding the soil against erosion and improving soil fertility (by fixing nitrogen or bringing minerals from deep in the soil and depositing them by leaf-fall). Furthermore, well-designed systems of exaggerators maximize beneficial interactions of the crop plants while minimizing unfavorable interactions. The most common interaction is intention, which may be for light, water, or soil nutrients. Competition invariably reduces the growth and yield of any crop.Yet competition occurs in monoculture as well, and this need not be more deleterious in exaggerators than monoculture systems. Interactions between components of an exaggerators system are Often complementary. In a system with trees and pastu re, with foraging animals, the trees provide shade and/or forage while the animals provide manure. Thus, exaggerators systems limit the risks and increase sustainability of both small- and large-scale agriculture. Exaggerators yester may be thought of as principle parts of the farm system itself, which contains many other sub-systems that together define a way of life. . 5. 1 -or produce For farmers, well managed exaggerators systems on sloping lands provide food, fiber, fodder, fruit, construction materials, medicine, honey, dyes and resin/gum, among other products. They also provide cultural and household utility items, bush meat from hunting and trapping, and products for sharing and barter among community member. Planted trees can also improve soil fertility and therefore support the production of staple crops and enhance DOD security in this way. 1. 5. 2 To protect Sloping lands are vulnerable to a number Of risks and hazards.Intense monsoon rain can trigger landslides and flas h floods and lead to soil erosion. Trees on slopes can help to prevent these effects, replenish soils and provide other environmental services. For example, a combination of grass strips, shrubs and trees in contour hedgerows on slopes can significantly reduce soil erosion. In addition, droughts can significantly reduce agricultural production, but exaggerators trees can help redistribute water in soil to provide annual rope with greater water availability, and provide shade to prevent water loss.

Public Health System Essay

Health policy and entire health care system in both the USA and Great Britain create a core for national quality standards. Dealing with health as a key condition for local and global human activity representatives of medical spheres in these two countries on opposite sides of the ocean have long-term experience which differs greatly in terms of functional, financial, and social issues. Financing. In the UK financing of the industry is done out of taxation paid by people on regular basis. 130 billion of dollars annually are spent to cover expenditures of healthcare system: paying out salaries for physicians, facilitating hospitals, providing latest medical technology and treatment (Hadikin, 2003). British health policy does not require from patients to pay on the scene since it has already been done automatically by their tax procedure. Sometimes those having problems with eyes or teeth will have to pay very small amounts to cover the cost for particular tests. However, such co-payments are not common in the UK and are covered by government for special society layers including aged and young people, special patients with chronic diseases, etc. The state pays directly to doctors and cover fees for a wide range of hospital services (Hawkes, 2007). In the USA payments for healthcare are done through private insurance system. Many believe that British system is more convenient since patients receive â€Å"free at the point of service† medical treatment. American healthcare sector is employee-employer based (54%) with partial governmental funding (46%) for the poor, the disabled, Native Americans, and elderly adults. Average American spends annually approximately $6,400 for healthcare where $2,880 is covered by government, $2,675 by private insurance, and more than $800 paid directly to doctors or other additional services. Unlike the US with population equal to more than 302 million people, the UK with its 61 million of citizens spends $2,720 each year to be confident in high-quality medical treatment. Described in detail, $2,370 are covered by British government received through national taxation and other $350 go directly from patients for extra services required (Sultz & Young, 2008). Challenges. Over years health policy in Great Britain has been facing significant obstacles in its strive for providing high-quality national medical service. First of all, due to the fact that all costs having to do with healthcare are covered through taxation without going directly to doctors on daily basis physicians tend to be less efficient. On the other hand being confident in that medical system is paid for by the government people with light complaints which can be easily treated at home with help of drugs purchased in the nearest drugstore immediately make an appointment unreasonably disturbing physicians who may have very urgent problems to take care of. Also, being structurally located under the government health policy in the UK must follow the rules set from above. That’s why if the government representatives decide that specific drug is cost-ineffective they may choose not to cover such medications. It is especially true for drugs against cancer which have always been extremely expensive with only several month effect and certain plastic surgeries which are considered to be addition features of healthcare and may never be crucial to health (Hawkes, 2007). Sadly enough, Great Britain tends to keep young people and those less than eighty years old in focus. The thing is that significant number of people in their eighties tend to be seriously ill whereas average life expectancy in Britain reaches 79. Unlike the US, where doctors do their best to save people no matter how old they are, English government refers to limited financing and number of able-bodied people who have the potential but need treatment. Unfortunately, anti-cancer treatment costs a lot and in majority of cases prolongs life of an aged person for couple of months only. In the UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence is authorized to decide whether specific drug in particular case is worth to be covered and normally they conclude that it is not. One more problem encountered by health policy in Britain again has to do with money issue. Governments have specific amount of money to spend annually on a person who has health problems. However, costs for drugs and medical treatment are constantly escalating and quality of service, therefore, is gradually dropping making this proportion more and more blurred (Hawkes, 2007). The biggest challenge for American citizen regarding health policy is a necessity to pay bills for all services they receive including various tests, prescriptions, visits to physicians, etc. Regardless of the fact that this tradition has a long-term history it has caused enormous inequity between the rich and the poor. Having created two healthcare bodies called Medicare and Medicaid which handle financial issues of old and poor people accordingly, they are far from being perfect. Firstly, people with membership in one of these institutions should go through never-ending bureaucratic procedures that require time and effort valuable for both aged people and low-income society representatives. Secondly, having received long-awaited registration they are provided only with basic services and typically have almost no choice while selecting doctors and hospitals (Barr & Dowding, 2008). In terms of care organization any insurance-based system including American one provides care upon request. For instance, when a person gets heart attack s/he is transported to the hospital, receives necessary medical treatment, and post-traumatic prescription. In Great Britain similar procedures are planned in advance. Thus, British doctors should calculate how many beds for what kinds of patients should be provided, how much vaccine should be purchased to immunize specific number of people and so on. Both American and British health policies have one thing in common having to do with technical issues of the system. Speaking about response times, neither of these states has a set regulation regarding standard response time applicable to all locations under any conditions. There exist certain agreed rules between providers of emergency service and official authorities that instruct required response times. Significant number of these regulations, however, have to do with private emergency service providers who cover only small portions of society. Both Americans and British have concluded that every location throughout these two countries should be provided with 8-minute medical help. (Davis, 2005) Irrelevant of the absence of set rules regarding response times cardiac arrests are considered to be the most urgent and demanding emergency calls in entire emergency service system. Majority of people who experience cardiac arrest should be provided with proper treatment including electric shock with ALS intervention within the first minutes. Figures show, that the sooner the ambulance arrives the more chances it has to save the patient from permanent brain death and irreversible processes which start occurring in human body shortly after the cardiac arrest. It happens on very rare occasions that the person survives receiving help within more than ten minutes. (Davis, 2005) Taking apart from cardiac arrest, response times for normal emergency calls that have to do with physical injuries or wide range of attacks vary from 12 to 14 minutes. Specifically, Wales show the worst result ever obtained in Great Britain in terms of response time and emergency service. According to recent statistics average Welsh emergency service provider arrives not earlier than 20 minutes after the emergency call. British authorities claim that it is totally unthinkable to demonstrate such low performance and that this part should be immediately improved. (Brindley, 2008) In conclusion it would be appropriately to note that both health policies have their advantages and drawbacks as basically any other system. The following table highlights key features of American and British healthcare sectors: Health policy in the UK Health policy in the USA Advantages Drawbacks Advantages Drawbacks Every member of society is provided with medical care Random cases of poor quality service due taxation payments as opposed to direct ones Better consumer choice provided due higher cost for medical services Only insured ones get the best service and treatment Because of sufficient NHS funds treatment and drugs cost less Some misuse medical treatment due to longing for communication and company (especially old people) Active implementation of latest technological equipment and scientific innovations in medical sphere Many retired people choose to work since it’s the only way to receive medical insurance Patients receive decent treatment regardless of their age, social status, or level of income Many claim they do not receive the right to choose a hospital or a doctor they like Patients visit hospital only in cases when it is really necessary, reasonable, or urgent Prices for medical treatment and drugs are higher because of debates and policy on governmental levels References Barr, J., & Dowding, L.
